About our group swim lessons

Group lessons bring together up to 3 swimmers at a similar skill level with one Certified Splash Instructor, for 40 minutes. Small groups mean your swimmer still gets real attention from their instructor, and they get to learn alongside peers, cheer each other on, and enjoy the water together.

A group is a way to share the pool, not a level to pass. Each swimmer still works on their own skills, and the instructor tailors cues and goals to each person.

How we group swimmers

Every group is one age cohort and one Skill Wave, so everyone learns with peers of a similar age and level. For example, Youth in Foundational Development, or Adults in Water Confidence & Safety. The three Skill Waves are Water Confidence & Safety, Foundational Development, and Advanced Techniques.

  • Little Swimmers: ages 2–4
  • Youth: ages 5–8
  • Pre-Teens: ages 9–12
  • Teens: ages 13–17
  • Adults: ages 18+

Advanced Techniques groups can have up to 4 swimmers, except Little Swimmers groups, which stay at 3. If your swimmer moves ahead mid-session, their instructor keeps building on those new skills, and we find them a new group at the start of the next session.

Group or one-on-one

Group lessons are a great fit if your swimmer enjoys learning with others and you're looking for a lower cost per swimmer. If you'd prefer one-on-one time, private lessons and adaptive swim sessions give your swimmer an instructor all to themselves. A free skills assessment at Burlington Hall helps us recommend the right fit together.

FAQ

Group Swim Lessons: common questions

How many swimmers are in a group swim lesson?

Up to 3 swimmers with one instructor. Advanced Techniques groups can have up to 4, except Little Swimmers (ages 2–4), which stay at 3.

How much do group swim lessons cost?

Group lessons are $35 per swimmer per lesson, or $30 per swimmer for Advanced Techniques groups. Each lesson is 40 minutes.

Can siblings be in the same group?

Swimmers are grouped by Skill Wave and age, so siblings may land in different groups. If you'd like them together, a semi-private lesson keeps 2 to 3 swimmers from your family in one lesson.

What if my swimmer learns faster than the rest of the group?

That's great news! Their instructor keeps building on new skills during the session, and we find them a new group at the start of the next one. Since we focus on skills rather than levels, instructors can continue to push swimmers to their full potential.

Do you offer group swim lessons for adults?

Yes. Adults (18+) learn in their own groups, with other adults in the same Skill Wave. See Adult Swim Lessons.
