Where does Splash teach?
We teach in Brampton and Milton! Our Brampton lessons run in partnership with We Rock The Spectrum Kids Gym Brampton and Erin Oak Kids Brampton, these lessons run year round and are always avalible to book through the website! Our Milton lessons only run in the summer however, we run backyard lessons in some of our pools around Milton, and we run lessons right in your backyard!
How long is each lesson?
Each lesson is 40 minutes long. We have determined this to be the optimal time, allowing for focus on the target skills needed for improvement, while also incorporating fun and games to enhance learning! If you do not believe this is will be enough time for your child, feel free to book back to back lessons, dependent on instructor availability.
Is there a Maximum amount of people in a lesson?
You are able to add up to three swimmers (Milton and Mississauga); two swimmers (Brampton) per lesson for no extra charge, and you can even divide the lesson to fit the needs of your swimmers. The instructor can teach all at once or you can choose to focus on one for 20 minutes and the others for 10 minutes each, or any other combination within the 40 minute lesson.
What Qualifications do your instructors have?
Each of our instructors have their Water Safety Instructor, as well as their National Lifeguard certification. Most of our instructors also have their Life Saving Instructor qualification. Our instructors are also involved in our own top tier training. They learn strategies for how to best teach specific skills, common issues with different stroke techniques, how to communicate with children of differing personalities and abilities, and strategies to teach kids to stay safe in and around the water. We also have instructors with crisis prevention and intervention training, first aid instructor qualifications, water safety instructor training, and many more. If you would like information on the specific qualifications of your specific instructor, please do not hesitate to ask.
What types of lessons do you offer?
We are training partners with the Red Cross and we teach their Learn to Swim program. That being said, we teach progressively, which means if your swimmer is excelling at front crawl we won't hold them back because they're struggling with back crawl. That means no more being stuck in the same level repeatedly.
Why are your lessons more expensive than the community center?
Our lesson price is calculated based on a private one to one ratio. This means that when broken down by time spent with the instructor, you are actually paying less for our lessons than the municipality or other private swim schools. In addition, you can have up to three children in the lesson at no additional cost. You can have them swim together if they are close to the same level or split the 40 min up between the swimmers. Our lessons are tailored to the needs of the swimmers in each session.
Can I request the same instructor for every lesson?
Yes! You can choose your instructor when you book each lesson. Stay with the same instructor or change it up each lesson to see who is the best fit for your swimmer. Since all of our instructors have the same training and share their notes on swimmers’ progress you’ll never have to worry about a difference in quality.
What if I don't know my swimmers level?
If you are unsure of your child's level, don’t worry! Since they are swimming privately, the instructor can work with them at their current skill level. The instructor will also give you lots of feedback about how they're doing and what skills they’ve progressed on.
When should I start swimming lessons?
We think children should learn to be safe as soon as possible, especially for those with backyard pools. Starting at 6 months of age, we teach a water safety program that teaches children to save themselves if they fall in the water. Children are taught to roll onto their backs and float so they can breathe. Once they know how to walk, we begin teaching them to kick. Children are taught to look for a point of safety and swim to that point, so they can exit the water.
We also think it’s important to note that no swimming lessons can replace proper pool safety. Children should never be left unattended near any water and pools should be completely fenced.
Are all your lessons private?
All of our lessons are private. However, you are able to add up to 3 swimmers in one class (if deemed safe by the instructor) for no additional charge. At our Brampton location, up to two lessons may be running at the same time with a maximum of 2 swimmers per class.
